Webbox Pet of the Month for October- Pancake the Cat

We are proud to announce that the Pet of the Month for October is none other than Pancake the Cat! Pancake is full of life and knows a thing or two about how to give a good cuddle. We spoke to his owner, Jupiter, to find out what a day in the life looks like, and what makes him different from your typical cat.

How old is Pancake and when did he first join your family?

Pancake is a purebred British shorthair, who was born on the 14th of September, 2018. We got him a few months before he turned one years old!

He’s a lovely, soppy boy who was originally brought from Bulgaria to the UK to be a stud cat, however, Pancake doesn’t like being a stud, so he joined our family instead to be a lazy house cat.

Does Pancake have any special talents?

Pancake is amazing at cuddling, being a cutie, and keeping himself groomed. He cleans his eyes often (as they get a bit grubby) and his fur is always perfect. For some reason, he loves sitting on paper and cardboard boxes!

Do you have any other pets? If so, how does Pancake get on with them?

We have another cat, called Pesto, who is a Maine Coon. Pancake gets along really well with him, and often will lead him around the house to show him things. Like if the food dish is refilled and Pesto doesn’t know yet, Pancake will often find him and lead him to the bowl, which is really cute. We also have a dwarf hamster, which Pancake is always curious about.

The hamster’s name is Lasagna and he’s quite the escape artist! Pancake has watched him run around the living room! We have some tank pets too – fish, shrimp, loches and snails in one big tank and a bunch of ants in a large ant farm.

How did you come up with the quirky name?

We are big foodies in our house – as you can see above all our pets have food names! Pancake was our first pet, and we named him Pancake after his flat face (which is adorable!). Pesto, Lasagna, and the rest of the animals have been named by the children – who followed the food theme.

What does a typical day look like for Pancake?

Every day, Pancake starts by sitting with Pesto outside our door, meowing us awake if we aren’t up already. He then leads us downstairs to fill up his food bowl and top up his water, before he eats. He spends most of his day on his cat tower, his favorite orange chair, or on his back on the floor, fast asleep. He’s got a few feather toys he likes to play with, but he mainly enjoys resting. When it comes to evening time, he and Pesto spend some time running about and looking for attention. After dinner, I sit on the sofa and cuddle Pancake a lot and brush him every once in a while.

He is such a cuddly, good boy.

What is Pancake’s favourite food? Favourite toy?

Pancake is really picky about dry food, but loves a variety of wet food, primarily fish-related wet food. He loves wet food with a lot of gravy, which he licks up and leaves the chunks for later. His favorite treats are the Webbox Tasty Sticks Cod Cat Treats – which he will jump up towards your hands to get if you are opening them. His favorite toy is a feather fishing rod (it’s like a pole with a rope and some orange feathers at the end). We feel orange is his favorite color as he seems to prefer orange toys. He loves it when the kids make him cat hotels too!

What do you love most about Pancake?

Pancake is what I love most about Pancake. He’s just lovely. I wanted a cat for so long, and when I saw Pancake I fell in love with him. He’s a soppy, happy, loving little boy who is one of the best parts of my life.

I love him more than most humans! He’s comforting, loud at times and just amazing overall.

What is your best story about Pancake?

Some mornings, when Dann gets up and goes downstairs before me, he sometimes sings with Pancake. He will start meowing at Pancake who will meow back and they both just keep meowing at each other in singing tones. It’s really cute and funny to stumble upon!

What is your favourite thing about being a pet parent?

I love having a friend who is always here and around. At the end of long days, he is there, ready to be stroked and fussed over. He loves cuddling, which I love, and I just enjoy being around him.

What would you tell people considering getting a cat?

Cats are individuals! We have two cats and they couldn’t be more different. Pancake is so affectionate attention seeking, whereas Pesto doesn’t ever stick around to be stroked, is so full of energy, and needs so many different toys to keep him entertained. A lot of people think that cats are all the same, independent and aloof, but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

Thank you Pancake and congratulations on your big win! We hope you enjoy your Webbox hamper, packed with a selection of delicious goodies. You can connect with Jupiter via her blog page www.jupiterhadley.com
